Wow. This male Anna's Hummingbird met me as I walked up Windy Hill on a foggy morning. He was perched at the peak of a Pacific Madrone which had been stripped of berries -- a few leaves, still dripping from the rain, hung on. Suddenly he rose straight up, hovering motionless, and spread his tail wide. I heard a buzzing sound. What a showoff!

Luckily, one of my photo sequence captured him in full showoff mode -- and it was even in focus!

For the next couple of minutes, he returned to the identical perch again and again, preening, looking here and there, flashing his luminescence. He flew off five or sis times, then repeated the performance on the perch -- but I only saw him hover and show off, that one time. For all I know, he was returning to this perch for long before and after our interaction.

Such a great springtime for hummingbirds!
