Flowers of California Buckeye (Aesculus californica)
We see both the single female flower, at the tip, and the profuse, fragrant male flowers, massed below. Often, one or the other blooms separately, to cut down on self-fertilization. (You know how to take these "intentional" statements, in this age of evolution.) Lovely 5-fold palmate leaves. Road D above Road C? Trail 1?? 3:28 pm.
