A burst of sunlight picks out Chamise (Adenostoma fasciculatum) and Leather Oak (Quercus durata durata). The slope beyond, carpeted in mixed chaparral, is still in shadow -- but another shaft of sunlight picks out two trees beyond. An overcast day punctuated with bursts of glory. Searsville Lake lies beyond the ridge -- then the foothills up to Skyline, here shrouded in fog.
