Oaks at Dawn
The oaks – bare valley oaks (Quercus lobata) and leafy coast live oak (Q. agrifolia) -- are red in the dawn light. Trail c, showing the green of the sprouting grass, winds through last year’s grass and past the chaparral plants, which include green and yellowish-green coyote brush (Baccharis pilularis). A stand of leafless poison oak plants (Toxicodendron diversilobum) is at the right of the path. The red dawn light is briefly passing beneath the cloud cover in the east, before being obscured on this day which became gray. Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, Trail c, 12/14/2012, 7:11 am. One fleeting moment, captured and shared.
