Horned Toad Lizard in the Hidden Villa Wilderness. This lizard is rare. It eats native ants -- especially Harvester Ants, locally Messor andrei -- not the invasive Argentine Ants. Luckily, the native ants seem to be holding their own in the Hidden Villa wilderness. Studies in 2009 identified this as a new species, called Phrynosoma blainvillii. The former P. coronatum was split into 3 species. P. coronatum is found only in southern Baja California. P. cerroense is in central Baja. P. blainvillii has a range extending from northern Baja to Northern California. <http://www.livescience.com/7800-species-horny-toad-identified-california.html>.
