A visit to Myanmar (aka Burma) in early November 2011. Exciting times, as it turned out, just before Hilary Clinton visited. Some hints of change, but there is a long way to go. People really respect Aung San Suu Kyi -- I do too. She was on the front page of the newspapers almost every day -- a big change from only a month earlier, when her name could not be mentioned in public, and people referred to "The Lady". She, and all of Myanmar, have a very tricky tightrope to walk -- to open up the country without chaos. Perhaps a too-aggressive approach would strike fear into the generals who have ruled for so long, and open the country to deep conflict.
I do have more images: including views of my fellow travelers. Let me know if you are interested, and if you would prefer more or more-selected collections. If there is any interest, I can post these as well. Please feel free to offer your comments on any image: IDs are especially welcome, for me and for all other visitors to this site.
