Moving Day
The ants above are moving the nest across Road F, approaching with their burdens. (See p 9 for closer views.) [p 4]
Messor Ants move the nest. This photo is taken from the center of Road F. The new nest is in the foreground, the old in the background. An older foraging trail runs to the left of the trail to the new nest. Ants were carrying pupae from the old to the new nest. I have called this, Nest B. Nest C is less than 1 m to the left.
These ants were moving the nest from the foreground (to the right of the center of the frame) to halfway across Road F. This is the same nest where I observed many alates (winged forms) a week ago.
