Boundaries
The Earth's shadow falls along the division between serpentine soil and more fertile soil, washed down off rthe ridge. Shorter, perennail native grasses above; taller dry remains of annual European invasives below, with new grass peeking out. Three oaks stand out on the ridge: A tall Blue Oak (Quercus douglasii), leafing out; a more compact Coast Live Oak (Q. agrifolia var. agrifolia), perennially dark green; and on the right, a serpentine-loving native Leather Oak (Q. durata durata). Serpentine rocks litter the sunny hillside. From Road F, 7:38 am.
