Overshadowed by the Dam
A photographer stands in shadow at the base of Searsville Dam. The dam is built like Lego: individually-cast concrete blocks, held together by pins into holes -- and gravity. This uncommon construction allows the dam to shrug off earthquakes without cracking. The dam is still sound, having survived the earthquakes of 1906 and 1989. 7/16/2022, 11:01 am.
