Shade
An old Blue Oak (Quercus douglasii) provides dappled shade as a photographer rests, waiting for the next leg of the journey. A Toyon shares the shelter beneath the oak. Many different shades of green are evident: "blue" oak leaves; light green Lace Lichen; vigorous yellowish-green Toyon leaves; and dogged dry leaves of the ancient, small Leather Oak, still surviving in the dry inhospitable serpentine soil, the hemisphere past the grass on the right. And Californial Bay, used to more water, just above the Leather Oak. Road D near junctions with Trails 5 and 8, 7/17/2022, 3:55 pm.
