Three Oaks on Road F
Pivoting around from about the same spot, we see Road F winding through a draw and up to the next ridge. Prominent on the left is another favorite valley oak (Quercus lobata), its dark-green mature leaves contrasting with even darker green, almost brown, clumps of draping oak mistletoe (Phoradendron serotinum ssp. tomentosum). Next, the road passes a valley oak on the right, this one anchoring the end of a small stand of chaparral. The road finally winds up to the top f the next ridge, where stands a lone valley oak, near where Trail 15 comes in again. Coyote brush (Baccharis pilularis) and other chaparral plants colonize the grassland in the hollow to the left. Had I come earlier, I might have seen some brush rabbits browsing in the road. The clouds and sun are nice. 8:47 am.
