Grassland and Chaparral

Grassland and Chaparral

Road F winds through the grassland toward the chaparral. On the left is the lone blue oak. Different soil types give different plant covers -- notice the darker grass just before the chaparral, in the lowlands, growing on more fertile soil deposited there. Serpentine rocks come to the surface around the lone blue oak. Behind it, a stunning example of deer-browse topiary forms a young coast live oak. Somehow, this view reminds me of Woody Woodward, who documented this area in the 1970s. 11:20 am.
