Barn Owl (Tyto alba) Peers from Hollow in Lone Valley Oak
We gazed at each other for a full six minutes, until I lost patience and moved a bit. I was clicking away, zooming in and out -- and just watching, through the camera. The owl was perhaps looking at its reflection in the camera, or just observing that strange being, almost motionless. Ten days earlier, on 4/4/2017, I saw a flash of wings in this hollow, while touring with Philippe, Helen, and some visitors from Ecuador. We waited then to see the owl, in vain. 4/14/2017, between 7:38 and 7:44 am, Road F, Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve. (This image 7:38:58 am.)
