Yellow and white tidy tips (Layia platyglossa) turn toward the sunlight, offering sweet nectar for the bay checkerspot butterflies that will not return this year. Purple owl's clover (Castilleja densiflora ssp. densiflora) stand erect in the sunlight, the dewdrops evaporating into the dry air.
