Welcome to Spring (2)

Welcome to Spring (2)

Native flowers burst forth in the serpentine grassland on the ridge, near the peak of the blooming for 2017. Yellow and white tidy tips (Layia platyglossa) turn toward the sunlight, offering sweet nectar for the bay checkerspot butterflies that will not return this year. Purple owl's clover (Castilleja densiflora ssp. densiflora) stand erect in the sunlight, the dewdrops evaporating into the dry air. Exuberant golden California goldfields (Lasthenia californica) form the base and color base for the display. Native clumpgrass stands tall. Road F, 8:11 am.
