Three Oak Species (4)

Three Oak Species (4)

A valley oak (Quercus lobata) at the border between serpentine grassland and forest. Some mistletoe decorates its branches. The toyon (eteromeles arbutifolia) at its base is full of red berries, ready for the swarm of robins soon to descend. On the hill behind, a stand of leafless blue oaks (Q. douglasii) blends into the always-green coast live oaks (Q. agrifolia). Bird transect trail near Trail 15, 9:43 am.
