A Kite hunts the grassland at dawn, hovering absolutely still, then descending to try to grab a small animal. I watched for 15 minutes and did not see success.
Tarweed blossoms in the summer grasslands. The oak woodlands show red and orange as plants shut down for the dry season.
I also watched Harvester Ants move their nest. See "Adventures on a Smaller Scale". This gallery contains images from visits on 8/13 & 8/16 as well.
