A peaceful December evening at Jasper Ridge. At 5:26 pm, the Earth has turned so the sun is beneath the horizon. The waxing crescent moon rules the evening sky, pointing toward the vanished sun. Neptune holds his place in the plane of the ecliptic, visually between the moon and the sun. Scattered sunlight silhouettes bare valley oaks and leafy coast live oaks. This is just after the longest night of the year; nighttime is beginning to shrink, giving the trees more precious sunlight. December 22, 2009, 5:26 am. Near Road F from Escobar Gate.
