Created 27-Nov-18
Two weeks in Mexico. Rogelia showed us around. Helen gave three talks at UNAM: the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
There are 10 collections (!) so far. Here are some cross-cutting labels to indicate the content in each: F: Friends and family. Helen, Rogelia, Renato, Kazia, Aldrich, and many others. Since Rogelia lived in Mexico City for years and attended university there, she has many friends.
D: Day of the Dead celebrations. Plus a skeleton party in the first collection, where we had lunch after Helen's education talk.
H: History. Thousands of years. I am especially interested in the pre-Hispanic history. But see C below:
C: Culture. Out and about. A unique mixture of original, Hispanic, and other cultures. People seem at home, happy in their skins. And there are so many people in Mexico City! [Of course, every photo contains something of the culture of Mexico City.]
Here are the collections:
#1: Helen's 3 talks at UNAM. The first two mainly physics, the third mainly science education. Nice question/discussion period with a panel. Socializing afterwards. [F]
#2: Streets, Pastry, etc. In Mexico City. The line of voters is for people to express their thoughts on the new airport, which will drain the last vestige of a lake in the Mexico City basin. [F, C]
#3: Parade for Day of the Dead, Mexico City. Begun after an episode in a James Bond movie, when people said, I'm here for that parade I saw in the movie. Interesting marchers, so many happy spectators! I'm sure I didn't catch all the political references. [F, D]
#4: Floating landscape. A floating world in a low area which used to be lake. [F, C]
#5: Day of the Dead in Tepoztlan. Local children's celebration in a small town. [D, C]
#6: Hike to El Teopzteco. [F, H, C]
#7: Family in Tepoztlan. We spend a few days in this small town near Mexico City. [F]
#8: Hanging decorations in the AirBnB where we stayed in Tepoztlan. [C]
#9: Frida, then Diego. Art etc. in Mexico City. [C]
#10: UNAM: Sculpture and Biology. A sculpture garden and botanical garden.
If I had more time, I might have shared fewer photos. But now, there might be something for all.
