Volcano Fuego above Cornfields
Volcanos Fuego (Fire) and Agua (Water) sit above Antigua Guatemala, the old capital. (They were partly responsible for moving the capital to Guatemala City -- too much fire, water, and earthquakes at the original location.) On the back slope of Fuego from Antigua sits the refugee community of La Trinidad. They own the land collectively and farm corn and coffee. Fuego is still active. This is in 2004, over four years after the community moved here.
