Dawn, moonset, valley oaks covered in lace lichen. Late spring flowers welcoming the new sunlight, overlooking Searsville Lake. Flowers, birds, and bunnies. The benefits of getting lost.
I was told some folks were banding birds near Searsville Lake, and that I could watch them. So I started early. But I couldn't find them, walked back and forth along the margin of Searsville Lake. It was not a total loss: before dawn, rabbits came out to browse. In late spring, many flowers. A hummingbird posed on a perch. Dawn light spread across Searsville Lake. The moon set.
I finally found the banders, up Corte Madera Creek. They let me watch as they carefully banded, measured, and released several birds.
The first folder here is a capitulation of the hike, all the highlights. The next shows a sequence of photos of the hummingbird, posing on a branch. The final folder shows the activities involved in banding the birds, and a few more of the birds.
