Coyote (Canis latrans) at Jasper Ridge

Coyote (Canis latrans) at Jasper Ridge

As I was walking along Road F past the chaparral and the rabbit, I became aware of a coyote approaching from the lonely valley oak. I stopped and raised my camera. He must have been aware of me, but paid me no mind & did not seem worried. He approached leisurely, sniffing the grass once in a while, looked around, then made his way off to the east, toward the kite's favorite roosting tree along Trail 15. A pleasant encounter. (Had the coyote continued along Road F, he would have come to the vicinity of the rabbit. That would have been interesting. But I happened to be between them...)
