Kite at Dawn
Juvenile white-tailed kite (Elanus leucurus) in flight. I have seen a juvenile kite accept a freshly-caught vole from its parent -- on the wing, in an aerial exchange! The breast coloration confirms that this is a juvenile. This coloration fades within weeks. On the ridge near the lonely valley oak, Road F near Trail 15, 9/27/2010, 7:13 am.
