Paradise: Ant on Iris -- Acrobat Ant (Crematogaster coarctata) on white iris at Hidden Villa.

Crematogaster coarctata (Acrobat Ant) on the stem of an Iris at Hidden Villa. [p 37]

The Horned Toad Lizard thrives on native ants -- and especially on Harvester Ants -- but the exotic invasive Argentine Ants are much less nutritious. Luckily for the Horned Toad Lizard, there is evidence that the spread of Argentine Ants is limited to settled areas and nearby, mostly. Us seeing this native ant at Hidden Villa gives hope to the Horned Toad Lizard. 9/2012: re-identify as Acrobat Ant. Note spines. Not Winter Ants (Prenolepis imparis) -- they do not have spines.
