Winged Camponotus leave the nest to mate and start new colonies. I came across this swarm as they were emerging from the nest - urgently, driven. This area is an ant hot spot: several species of ants have been seen within a few meters. Hillside Lab, Trail 7 near Road D, 9/17/2011, about noon. [p 25]
