Carpenter Ant (Camponotus sp) with Yellowjacket Wasp Abdomen

Carpenter Ant (Camponotus sp) with Yellowjacket Wasp Abdomen

A Camponotus (Carpenter Ant) has found the thorax of a Yellowjacket. She freezes when I draw near. [p 24]

Note the smooth thorax. Camponotus, not Formica moki. This ant froze for several minutes with my camera lens inches from her face. But large eyes. Road F near Phainopepla Tree, not far west of Trail 17, before Trail 16.
