This short section of Alpine Trail, from the parking lot at Willowbrook and Alpine to the emergency exit for Portola Valley Ranch, is the only trail in this collection to allow dogs -- on leash of course. (Dogs are allowed in the Windy Hill Open Space Preserve across Alpine Road just past Willowbrook, and on many other trails in Portola Valley and the Bay Area.) Let's keep a few wilderness areas for those animals and people who are shy of dogs!
One flower here is rare on Coal Mine Ridge: the Checkerspot Lily. On the other hand, the Giant Trillium is much more common on the Ridge.
