Grasslands are dry and “California golden”, desiccated invasive annual grasses mixed with dormant native perineals. Many flowering plants have retreated underground to wait for rain’s return; tarweeds and similar, Mariposa Lily, Farewell-to-spring, and of course poppies remain for the bees and butterflies. Poison Oak shows summer crimson. Hawk, swallow, woodpecker, and robin course the dry air. Early July out of Escobar Gate.
