A young buck pauses on his way to browse breakfast, noticing a strange new observer. Similar to hikers sometimes seen on this trail, but immobile – and with an object up to its face. Strange clicking noise.
He pauses, considers. Takes a tentative step onwards – no, look again, what is this? Suspended between caution and curiosity, out of his ordinary routine, the buck executes a delicate four-legged ballet: posing, pausing, deciding, reconsidering. Dainty, Curious, fascinated, shy, bewildered, anxious: he is ever on the brink of acting, then pulled back to curious observation tinged with caution. Graceful limbs move -- then freeze. Eyes and ears focus.
Some poses are reminiscent of heraldric symbols for coats of arms. Buck passant guardant sinister – that would look good on a shield.
Finally finished, seeing nothing else to do here, he moves on. His two companions, having watched patiently from the tall grasses’ cover, follow.
