Bending, twisting, soaring in air; landing; stretching; launching forth again. Anna’s Hummingbird hunts insects, gathering protein. Iridescent feathers flash red, gold, green – winking on and off as the bird twists aloft.
A selection from several hours of watching a favorite perch with my camera on burst mode at 1/2000 sec exposure time, taking a new photo several times a second for a minute and a half, waiting to load the photos into the camera’s long-term memory card, repeating. While the hummingbird, on his own schedule, darts away to snatch insects out of the air, returns, repeats. Sometimes I get lucky and capture him in mid-flight.
