Lesser Goldfinch rests on the tip of a tiny branch, enjoying morning sunlight. Pausing between hunting forays, Anna’s Hummingbird lands on a nearby twig. Goldfinch is not happy. He calls out a warning – then, as the hummingbird lands anyway, the goldfinch hops across. Hummingbird departs.
Goldfinch: “I know hummingbird is no danger to me over there. But it is annoying and disturbs my peace. I want him gone.”
Hummingbird: “OK fine, be that way. There are plenty of other places on this tree to rest – actually, some are better than this one. Life is too short to quarrel over this small matter. Goodbye.”
Actually, I don’t know what they were “thinking”… But I can make up a story. What is yours?
