Turkey Vultures gather from near and far to rest in an old Blue Oak above Deer Path Trail, waiting for morning sunlight to warm their wings, waiting for the time to descend to feast on fallen flesh. Red-shouldered Hawk returns again and again, watching for his chance at a careless Ground Squirrel.

Then one evening the old oak is gone. A flat stump and a dusting of sawdust mark its home.
