Christmas Bird Count relies on sound this year. I capture one bird photo: American Robin near Escobar Gate. Rounds of robins twitter around us as we walk; they have returned in force again for wet season sustenance, for Toyon berries and more.

Dense fog blankets the ridge, obscuring distant views, bringing nearby trees into sharp focus. On ridgetop, Grassland Fire Road at Serpentine Trail, stands a lone Valley Oak – now truly alone in white mist. Reverence evokes circumambulation. Each angle shows a different aspect of this venerable witness. Beneath its spreading branches, tufts of hair in fogdrops, under fallen leaf. Predation? Owl??

California Poppies blossom somewhere in California every month of the year. One brave poppy, festooned with droplets, celebrates our cold, wet winter solstice.

Bowl and Doily Spiders (?) set webs in grassland, made visible by fogdrops.
