Red-tailed Hawk surveys grassland from atop bare Valley Oak, then shares this oft-used perch. Pigeons and doves: Mourning Doves forage in the middle of the Grassland Fire Road; Band-tailed Pigeons rest in widely separated Valley Oaks. California Scrub Jays hunt in chaparral.
