Deep in a tangle of tarweed, tiny bees or beeflies are busy – moving from flower to flower, collecting pollen and nectar. This is their season for reproduction as well.
A moth joins in, probing proboscis pulling nectar from deep below pollen-laden anthers.
As insect alights, each flower bobs downwards – subtle motion drawing attention to cryptic activity, tiny insects deep in the tarweed jungle.
Later: beetle visits lone poppy; moth sits on leaf; Western Yellowjackets emerge from nest.
Please leave a comment if you know whether these were bees or beeflies – or have anything to add!
