On the drive down Stage Road to Tassajara: distant peaks and valleys (perhaps the Pacific?); chaparral and flowers, adapted to the hot dry environment. And twisted rocks.

Past the memorial, a rude high trail circles back to the creek; the same ecosystem. Steep slopes, peaceful vistas, even a waterfall plunging over a rugged cliff.
