Structures in the main valley are simple, built of local materials for the most part. The path leads to the Suzuki Roshi memorial. A few Buddha statues. Ancient rocks remain, reminders of deep time. This valley has been threatened by wildfires; preparations exist.
Sharing this settlement with the staff of Zen meditators and their summertime guests are three cats, watchfully joined by cheeky Steller’s Jays, always on the lookout for unguarded food.
