In dawn shadow, a rabbit ventures out of chaparral safety to browse on dew-damp grass. Acorn Woodpeckers tend their stash of acorns, in a stately old Valley Oak now devoid of green, still serving as lookout perch, nesting site, and granary. New green leaves cover Valley Oaks and Blue, joining Coast Live Oaks in photosynthesis. Grasses begin to turn yellow and brown, thistles and chaparral plants remain green. The seasons turn.
