“Come on, Dan”, Helen calls out as she waits with the dog. But the Coyote and I are sharing the moment. She poses; observes; yawns; walks around; then sits again, watching and waiting. She is really checking me out. Finally she circles around toward Helen’s direction, then ambles off into the forest.
Up the hill, two more coyotes rest in the grass, languidly observing all this. Then they rise and begin the hunt: mostly, inspecting Ground Squirrel holes. They move off in different directions, perhaps to join up later. No grey hair: they are younger. I am pretty sure at least one is also a female; at least, I see no evidence to the contrary.
