Anna's colors are iridescent, not from pigments -- they wink into view as the bird moves and the sun angle shifts. We only see the half of it: Anna’s (and many birds) have four vision cones, compared to our three. In addition to our color spectrum spanning combinations of red, blue, and green, hummingbirds add ultraviolet as well, a fourth dimension of color. The iridescence leads to saturated colors. (It is spectacular enough, to me.) See Audubon Magazine: <https://www.audubon.org/magazine/winter-2022/the-vibrant-colors-hummingbirds-are-more>.

A nice encounter along Deer Path Trail in Portola Valley Ranch, above the vineyard. Together, the hummingbird and I managed to arrange a good angle between us and the slanting sun. He showed off all his colors in the course of one minute. Time flies when you are having fun!
