Browsing Brush Rabbits. A covey of quail feeding in the undergrowth. Wide panoramas; the Peninsula spread out below Windy Hill, beneath a cloud-bedecked sky. Focusing on Healing in Nature, I left these images out of my original post; here they are.

Arriving early for the scouting trip, I wander along the Anniversary Trail to the south summit of Windy Hill. Dramatic clouds decorate the heavens, long shadows the earth. In the shade behind the summit, Bush Rabbits browse, ever alert for danger. A little farther around the Herb Grench Trail, soft murmuring and fluttering hint at a covey of quail; I finally glimpse a female, hurrying from cover to cover. Looking toward the Pacific, I face a dilemma: where to focus? What to exclude in order to frame an image? I settle for a panorama.

From the north summit, I notice a runner at the summit I had just visited.

With more time before meeting my fellow scouting party at 10 am, I wander back along the ridge, Anniversary Trail past Hamm's Gulch Trail and along Lost Trail -- even a way down the back driveway for Villa Lauriston.

The air is clear with a hint of haze in the distance. Nice views down to Portola Valley, Palo Alto, San Francisco Bay, the East Bay Hills, and Mount Diablo. From up on Windy Hill, this all looks flat. People hiking in Jasper Ridge and Portola Valley experience hills, but these are dwarfed from the vantage point of Windy Hill.
