After weeks without rain, another atmospheric river pumps soaking rain onto us. The Frog Pond, which was looking wan, fills again to overflowing. Ducks rejoice. Everything is washed clean and shines.

Even the frog chorus returns in full strength, perhaps stronger than before.

Actually, this feels more like a second season than an encore. We were all beginning to wonder, is that all there is? Even a few plants thought this might be spring, time to flower.

But the ground was wet many mornings from heavy dew. And many plants and animals continue in their annual dance. Buckeye seeds fall, ready to plunge roots into the soft soil. Toyon berries ripen, ready for the onslaught of migrating Robins and Cedar Waxwings. Mushrooms erupt, spreading spores to the ready earth.

Some of these photos are from the interregnum, after the first rain deluge and before the second. The last photos show the wet world after the second rain. We hope for a regular rainy season after this, but we are used to disappointment.
