I enter the Main Gate of Stanford's Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve for the first time since March 2020 -- it's great to be back! Searsville Lake is quite low for a second year, as the drought continues and Stanford takes some water -- better than using potable Sierra water for watering plants on campus. Some young bucks act as if they haven't seen too many humans, though of course there have been *some* people about.

Mary Hufty leads Helen and me down along San Francisquito Creek, the Herb Dengler Trail. Most of the creek still flows, not from Corte Madera Creek and Searsville Lake, but from Bear Creek. Herb Dengler's patch of Leopard Lilies is in full bloom. There is an interesting ecosystem in the nearby riparian serpentine. Several Indian Pink (Silene californica) are in full bloom. [Six days later, all these flowers are gone.] A Lorquin's Admiral butterfly poses.

Bob Dodge and others helped with several IDs. Thanks!
