Mixed Forest

Buckeye, Toyon, Douglas Fir, Coast Redwoods, and more crowd this vista from mid Toyon Trail. Chaparral, showing colorful fall colors, is in the foreground. Three prominent pants reveal their branch structure in stark white: the Buckeye in the foreground, healthy, always leafless at this time of year; a Coast Live Oak, perhaps having succombed to sudden oak death; and a conifer, maybe a Douglas Fir, succombed for another reason, perhaps drought. We are looking down from mid Toyon Trail, above the bridge, across Corte Madera Creek and Alpine Road. 8/14/2020, 8:07 am.
