Dioecious: a thirty-dollar word meaning sexy. The male and the female flowers appear on different, separate plants of the same species. So they have to grow nearby -- and they do. Helen wants me to show these plants to Rodolfo Dirzo, who knows a lot about ecology around the world, and still wants to learn more.
I first show the male and female plants together, in Mader Valley, Portola Valley Ranch, 5/18/2020. Then I go back in time and show the plants' development over the past two weeks or so, from Black Oak Trail nearby.
