Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) in Flight

Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus) in Flight

I saw four or five of these hawks, circling high in the air and calling. Perhaps a courtship display for this monogamous species -- two couples?? (Or perhaps they were not all the same species, and the Red-shouldered Hawk(s) were mobbing another bird?) I usually see these hawks perched on a tree or in flight, closer to the ground, ready to suddenly swoop upon some unsuspecting prey. Seen from Alpine Road over Windy Hill Open Space Preserve. I am sure these hawks also frequent Coal Mine Ridge; I have often seen one perched at the Frog Pond. 5/9/2020, 8:59 am.
