A celebration of Larkspur! Iris, Blue Dicks, Starflowers, Globe Lilies, Lupine, Blue-eyed Grass, Mule Ears, Roses, masses of Buttercups, and all you other flowers -- you tried, yes you are lovely, but nothing matches the Larkspur. Though the crimson Dragonfly comes close, darting and weaving, playing tag, then perching motionless on a grass stem for closer inspection and wonderment. A spring walk up Lower and Mid Toyon Trails, then down Coalmine Trail. Coal Mine Nature Preserve of Portola Valley Ranch in a spring of (human) social distancing, and (insect, animal and flower) business as usual, full of wonder.

As usual, please add a comment if you know an ID or something we might want to know. The community knows so much more than I do. And please pull any French Broom you see, if you can. It is in flower, easy to see; the ground will not get softer; and seeds will soon spread, making it even worse next year.
