Dawn, sunrise, full sun. Fog, clouds, blue skies. Oaks, springtime wildflowers. Browsing deer, sipping hummingbird, searching butterfly, flapping turkey. The Ridge in April 2019.

Taking multiple passes back and forth, we experience the transition from dawn to full day in multiple spots out of Escobar Gate. Sunrise-streaked skies give way to fluffy clouds. Day’s sunlight reveals different aspects of familiar locations. This is the height of the springtime display of wildflowers.

An accompanying gallery focuses on just one location: the Phainopepla Tree, an old snag of a Valley Oak on a ridgetop, the favorite of photographers and birds.
