A pleasant walk through the serpentine grasslands and even serpentine woodlands of Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve, with old friends and new who often walk together. We saw much of what Helen and I had seen three days earlier -- even the Woodpecker (Hairy?) in the "Phainopepla Tree". One new encounter: a Coastal Newt, ambling across Road F as we approached. The road actually seemed less sloppy than three days ago, even though it has rained a bit.

This expedition was haunted by rain: postponed on earlier occasions, and nearly again by a changing forecast. In the event, it was a nice morning, with cloudy skies occasionally pierced by sunlight. As I was driving home, rain wet my windshield.
