Oaks with Serpentine

Oaks with Serpentine

A large blue oak (Quercus douglasii) shelters a smaller coast live oak (Q. agrifolia). A sudden transition in the soil, with serpentine beyond, even some serpentine rocks. Hayfields tarweed (Hemizonia congesta ssp. luzulifolia) grows more abundantly in the nearer soil. The Bay and East Bay Hills lie beyond. From Road F, 10:29 am.
