The one on the ridge beyond, the "Phainopepla Tree", has not sprouted any leaves this year; even its mistletoe is leafless. Actually, there is a third valley oak here: sticking into the frame from the left, the "Chaparral Valley Oak", along with a little representative of the chaparral, California sagebrush (Artemesia californica).
